Steady Surefooted Behavior

Proverbs 10:9a He that walketh uprightly walketh surely.

Read Proverbs 10:1-32.

Steady, surefooted behavior in a slippery world is no accident. Unfortunately, most people begin to consider this subject when it is too late, prompting Solomon to emphasize the importance of having and maintaining a right relationship with one*s parents (v. 1). Young readers would do well to remember that a direct relationship exists between your treatment of your parents and your destiny. *Honor thy father and thy mother* is still in the Book!

Nonslip behavior depends on a nonskid value system. *Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivereth* (v. 2). Make no mistake about it: that which you value most will determine your destiny. Jesus said, *Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also* (Matt. 6:21). Stability of conduct also depends on whether you have decided that God is all He claims to be and that He will not fail you. Indeed, *The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish* (v. 3). Someone has said that when you have nothing left, you may for the first time become aware that God is all you need.

There is a lot of just plain good sense in Christian living. Proverbs 10:4-7 bears this out. Carelessness leads to poverty, and contrary-wise, diligence leads to prosperity. Surefooted behavior is built on willingness to learn from others and to take advice (v. 8). No one can lead who has not first learned to follow a leader.

Small thought here. An *upright walk* means a life where Jesus is Lord of all. When He is in control, you can depend on God*s promise that He orders your steps (Ps. 37:23).
